An island for relaxation

Lanai is an island with only 3 hotels, so few tourists. Not a McDonald's, only 2 main roads (if you count that of the airport) that meet the inhabitants all live in the only city (Lanai City) located approximately 5km from the sea in the hills of the island, This is where you find the only rental company "car" (which makes dollar rents mostly jeeps). For the more adventurous / mowing, there is also camping on the beach. 2 ways to arrive on the island: the ferry from Maui (1 hour) or plane.

Because Lanai is minus, I do not recommend staying more than 3 days max (unless your goal is relaxation and sporting activities).

The activities are numerous enough if

you are staying has one of 2 luxury hotels, managed by the same company:

Manele Bay-and spa hotel is situated on the seafront, you'll find pool, many activities like sea kayaking, diving with dolphins (depending on their mood) are proposed by a private company.

Lodge at Koele is the hotel situated in the hills near the city. It has an atmosphere and decoration more than Hawaiian mountain, with its forest of pine, it is generally cooler in the hills, and it is quite common to be in the clouds while 5km lowest it's a sun lead. There is an equestrian center, possibility to rent mountain bikes (many ballads to ay, but very tiring, in short, we were the favorite Jeep!), You can practice archery, shooting, golf, tennis, swimming also at the hotel. Hikes also.

Lanai-hotel in the town of Lanai City, is much more affordable, and does not prevent you from doing all the activities offered by other hotels.

The town itself has only 2 small boui boui which serve supermarket. There are very few places to eat, but certainly cheaper than the restaurants located within 2 luxury hotels. No night club / bar. The luxury hotels are once again the flagship of the island, you can sometimes listen to Hawaiian singers in the evening, drink a matai in the bar .. but nothing very active. This is not the island to party! The people are very friendly, patient, you will find even a French chef (but especially avoid fatty liver, which is that fat?? Short, it's disgusting!)

Jeep (only! Saw the condition of the roads are not paved, except the main 2) is to book in advance, you can go: -the Garden of the Gods (large expanse of desert with rocks everywhere, but arranged in a very odd-one over the other, one wonders how they are). Continue on same road and you can: -stroll on a deserted beach on one side or the other of the island (take your meal / drink, it's nice) -go to the "sinking ship", also deserted beach. -go around the island in one day.

The island is fairly dry when compared to other islands. I suggest rather then a second trip to Hawaii (if you can) unless you can stay one month course! Or if you are looking for a quiet place to relax without too many tourists around, end of stay for example, will y. We adore this island, we stayed 4 days, hotels are extraordinary (if you can afford it), it is a haven of peace, silence and relaxation. To avoid especially if you want to see "Hawaii tourism" (as waikiki), or party all night. The island will disappoint!
