Hanalei Valley Lookout

The observatory Halanei offers a splendid view of Kauai. The valley has a width of 1.6 km and a length of 9.6 km. Most fields of taro are grown there.

The fields are constantly irrigated and cultivated by squares, which gives an appearance of patchwork.

You can access this location using an old single-lane bridge, built in 1912 and damaged by a tsunami in 1957. The bridge was strengthened thereafter.

Know that when you drive over a bridge to one lane, you must follow the vehicle ahead if committed on the bridge. Otherwise, you must stop and wait for all vehicles coming in opposite direction are increased.

The

visit here is worthwhile and it is a good place to take pictures.

To get there from Princeville, take Highway 56 which crosses the north shore of Kauai. The Hanalei area begins when the highway number changes to 560.
