History of Hawaii

 
J. Cook officially discovered the islands of Hawaii in 1778 (though historical sources are telling as had been first sighted by Spanish navigators). A native monarch, Kamehameha the Great, who in 1795 occupied the islands of Maui and Molokhai across the channel to the island of Oahu, ruled the archipelago. The conquest of 'island of Ohau marks the beginning of the united kingdom of Hawaii. Given the strategic location, the port of Honolulu became a major hub airport and commercial trade between North America and Asia.  In 1809 Kamehahea the court moved to Maui from Honolulu, who was then a village of about 2,000 inhabitants.
