Hookipa Beach

Hookipa Beach is located on the north coast of Maui. It is perhaps one of the most renowned for windsurfing in the world. The waves are larger during the winter, and break through a reef system that stretches across the bay. During the summer the waves are much smaller. We can say then that the Hookipa beach is ideal for windsurfing because the waves are large and shapely, helped by strong winds. The name Ho'okipa means "hospitality" in the Hawaiian language. While high winds and strong tides make this beach is not for beginners, surfers and windsurfers arrive continuously experienced on this coast for recreation and participate in competitions.

Hookipa Beach

was the destination for many windsurfing competitions held in the discipline of 'the wave'. One of the annual events is the "Aloha Classic", which is a competition with several age categories. Like many other locations in Maui, this beach is usually a tourist attraction, especially in the winter for its amazing surf shows. The truth is that it is a good place to swim, as the huge waves hinder this activity. Usually advise the authorities off the water at certain times. Many visitors will have to settle for staying in the picnic areas and watch the show from some of the many existing viewpoints.
