The first inhabitants of the archipelago were Polynesians who came from the Islands Marchioness in the Vth century. About the year 1000 there arrived Tahitians, who introduced his social order, religion and customs. The first western one in treading on these islands was the British captain James Cook, who arrived in 1778 at the Sandwich Islands, as it baptized them.
