Population growth forced the Polynesians to constantly search for new territories and approximately 4 century AD they colonized Hawaii. Occurred at a

time traveling from Tahiti or the Marquises Islands to Hawaii was very difficult. Successfully overcoming such distances can only people knowledgeable about the ocean, and who were at least excellent swimmers and sailors. Polynesians brought from Tahiti to Hawaii to their customs and culture, including surfing.

Judging from the few historical data, to Tahiti, while surfing, rarely stood on the boards at full height, so you can almost certainly assume that the art of managing a long standing board was, if not invented, then at least to perfection is Hawaii . And it is in Hawaii found the most evidence of surfing, a special value of which are legends, transmitted orally from generation to generation. Basically it is a beautiful song, telling about love, life and death, the ocean and the heroic death of kings and ordinary people. Rock paintings on rocks and cliffs, customs, signs, graphics, and of course the names of places. All this in one way or another describes the descendants of the great heroes of the Hawaiian and surfing contests, held at one time or another throughout all the generations of Polynesians living in Hawaii. Some of the petroglyphs presumably have an age around 1500 years, and this suggests that surfing was one of the oldest components of Polynesian culture in which everything was subordinated to Kaput - taboo system.
