The site in Hawaii: The arrival in Honolulu (II)
I promised a new post on Honolulu and here you have it. Compared to the big cities, Honolulu is a small city with a small but pleasant historic center. It has many houses and palaces of colonial look like Iolani Palace or the library. Right there we have the Cathedral of St. Andrews, where several scenes have been shot in the series: Oxford Faraday and Desmond in The Constant, where Charlie and his brother walked Liam, instead of thinking of Mr. Eko, and Desmond later when he decided to become a monk. Nearby, following by King Street, we reach the business area, with tall buildings that make up the skyline of the city.
But to seek something more than entertainment, the best area is approached in Honolulu, to the east. It Waikiki. Kalakaua Avenue is full of tourists at any time of day or night, alternating between the hours of blockbuster holiday beaches in the area (which, being objective, are the ugliest of the island) and the shops and restaurants.
We find Hawaiian souvenirs shops for all tastes (ABC Stores is omnipresent on the island and offers everything from food to Hawaiian shirts, via Hello Kitties with flower necklaces and dolls of Obama playing the ukulele), restaurants for all tastes , ice cream parlors, jewelry stores and luxury shops (Versace, Tiffany's, Dolce Gabana, Armani). In this area there is a clear predominance of Eastern tourism. At the end of the avenue is the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park, along with several statues in honor of local surfers.
That's all for today. Tomorrow I will keep reporting from the coast of Hawaii. Namaste.
