Walking through the Alakai swamp on Kauai

 

In Koke State Park, the Alakai swamp. It is one of the wettest places in the world and the largest raised bog. To commit property of the Alakai Swamp is just since the year 1998. This year, a boardwalk was laid.

The Alakai Swamp Tour at the Puu O Kila usually begins Lookout on Highway 550 (Koke Street). Here begins the hike on the Trail Pihea. The first highlight of the Pihea Vista overlook is about 1.5 km. From there, you have a wonderful view over the Koke State Park and the island of Kauai. After a total


 
of 2.5 km trail leads to the Pihea the Alakai Swamp Trail then. In the almost 6 km long Alakai Swamp Trail Experience a Vegationswechsel. After the first track through the tropical rain forest thins out and this can be found in bushy bog again. If, following the path lies the Kilohana Lookout, from which one can look for fine weather to Hanalai Bay.

The Tour has a medium difficulty level. Should necessarily be good shoes of the party. As plentiful in all walks of Hawaii, water and sunscreen are necessary.
